Desktop shortcut will not open folder

When I click on a shortcut that i have created. the target folder will not
open. Instead I get a search window.

I can right click on the shortcut icon on my desktop and I get an assortment
of options. The first option is search instead of open. Open is listed as
second option.
I notice that on the shortcuts that do work, the first option listed when I
right click them is OPEN.

Does anyone know how I can fix this problem?

I hve xp home
IE 6 with SP 2
Thanks

Delete the shortcut
Goto the target folder and right-click it
Click Copy
Go back to the location of the original shortcut and right-click
Click Paste Shortcut

This is quicker than changing the default options (Open, Explore, Run as, etc.).

Austin, thanks for this reply BUT I have corrected the problem. I will post
how I fixed it in case others are having same problem. Go to:

www.dougknox.com/xp/scrips_desc/xp_folder_open.htm

This allows you to download a fix called Xp_Folder_open. You save it and
then click on the saved file and it will fix your corrupted registry.

Now my shortcuts work fine.

He also has some other good fixes on his website www.dougknox.com
