Desktop Shortcut to CD/DVD Drive Keeps Being Called Invalid

I have a combination CD/DVD Drive D.
I right click and drag the icon from My Computer and "create a shortcut" on
the Desktop.
But when I try to use it, I get a message that the path is invalid and
asking if I'd like to delete the shortcut.
Does this happen because both CD and DVD player share Drive D?
Is there a trick to creating a shortcut that will be permanently good?

Perform the following:

1. Right-click on your Desktop and select: NEW > SHORTCUT
2. Click the Browse button and browse to your CD/DVD player and click once on it, then OK.
3. In the next window, type in: CD/DVD Player , and click "Finish"
4. A CD/DVD Player shortcut icon will appear on your Desktop.

I have no problem creating the shortcuts. I've used every method available.
It's just that after a short while, the shortcuts stop working.

Thanks for this, Ramesh. I read the KB article, and I think I'll take MS's
advice and just wait for the next Service Pack for the fix.
I thought it might have to do with the fact that two players share one
drive. I'm actually relieved to know that it is a bug recognized by
Microsoft.

You may still get the hotfix from Microsoft. Or, uninstal 821557 update from Add/Remove.
