Desktop not loading

I will try to keep this brief, XP Home, after selecting user in normal mode,
goes to blank desktop, no taskbar no nothing, have to use taskmanager to get
out. Have reloaded in Safe Mode, desktop loads as does taskbar and tray, I
can select items to open but they do not open.

I originally found a number of trojans and spyware, cleaned them and did a
repair of XP. worked fine for 5 starts, then reverted back, anybody got any
ideas.
