Desktop locked?

Weird problem. My 9 month old was playing with the mouse and did
something strange, my desktop is now empty (except for the background
pic) and it seems to be locked as clicking and dragging won't give me
a marquee.

I checked the "Desktop" folder and all my files and shortcuts are
still there, also, I couldn't find anything to reset the desktop under
the display properties.

Any idea what he could have done and how to fix it?

simple problem - simple solution

right click desktop, go to arrange icons by, and regular click show desktop
icons
