Desktop Layout Garbling

Here is the situation:

- XP Home
- Relatively fast machin e (1GHz)
- Plenty of RAM and disk
- Two (2) accounts - no passwords

- ICONs on Desktop for Account #1 stay as originally placed; any changes are
properly "remembered".

- Switched User to #2
- Set/placed ICONs on Desktop for Account #2.
- Shutdown PC/Restart so that is would "remember"/store these settings.
- Restarted PC, went directly to Account #2.
- ICONs were as set in step above.

Then...

- Did NOT log off #2, Switched User, went to Account #1. then switched User
again to #2.
- Desktop #2 ICONs were placed all over the place.

Why are Desktop ICON placements for one user being reset when for another
they stay as set?

Tks!

For each user, check to see how Arrange Icons By is set for.

1. Right-click on blank area of Desktop
2. Move mouse over Arrange Icons By and check how each are set

If each are set correctly, determine if Icons are out of place are in direct
proportion to User 1 Icons so that hey don't overlay on the desktop when
switching.

Larry:

Arrange Icons By: Align to Grid & Show Desktop are the only selections
checked.

Your overlap statement, what do you mean here? User 1 cannot have an icon
on a specific deskspace where User 2 has one?

User 1 - icons never change. For the most part, User 2's icons get shoved
into the left-side of the desktop. Some set to the right side, stay as
placed.

BTW, if User 2 logs off before "Switching Users", then problem goes away.

What else might be happening??

Best,
Wayne

As far as my overlap statement ... that IS exactly what I meant.

Did you try turning off Align to Grid and see if that fixes the problem?

Are both users' set up for Align to Grid?

W

Wayne

Both are set to Align to Grid.
Will reposition icons btwn #1 and #2 so that no overlap is present, see what
happens.
