Desktop issues

The picture I use on my desktop is now only visible for a brief moment
during shut down; the main desktop screen is a solid color.
I have tried to "right-click" on the desktop, click on "properties", click
on the"desktop" tab. But thats as far as I can go. The "background" options
(ie. browse, position, stretch) are all greyed out, and I cannot click a
photo name in the list on the left or even scroll through the list. The only
thing I can change is the color. I'm sure this is a simple thing to fix, but
can't seem to figure it out.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

-----Method--3-:---Manually (XP -Any)------

Thanks, I already tried that with no luck. After reading some of the other
posts regarding desk top problems, I downloaded and ran SpyBot and Spyware
Blaster (in that order) and the problem is cured. I must have picked up some
kind of Spyware in the last day or so that was gumming up the works! Thanks
for taking the time to respond though, it was most appreciated!
