Is there a way of getting rid of the text labels under the desktop icons ?

Info:

How To: Turn off the Balloon Tooltips and Pop-ups

Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/View/Advanced/Uncheck Popup
Descriptions for Folder and Desktop Items.

TweakUI/Taskbar/Uncheck Enable Balloon Tips
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Or use this automated edit:

Disable Balloon Tips or Disable All (Row 11)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Disable All includes: Balloon Tips, Folder Contents Info Tips, Explorer
Pop-Ups, Show Info Tips, Start Menu and Notification Area.

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

No. But you can give them names consisting of characters that
don't display, such as alt-255. Note that each name must be
unique, so you'll need to use two alt-255s for the second, three
alt-255s for the third, and so on.

Sorry Ken but that went staight over my head, do you mean rename the icons?
I tried what I think you mean with no luck BTW I use a Dell laptop. Thanks
for your reply

Hi Paul,

To have transparent text under icons - ALT+0160

Right click the icon in question, choose Rename, hold down the ALT key and
type 0160 from the keypad.

Thanks Kelly but nothing happens when I do this on my Dell laptop, any ideas
why?
