DeskTop Icons

Just purchased a Dell computer with Vista O/S
Problem: The Desktop is clear ( No Icons ) I can't get any Icons on it, and
I can't seem to get any of the programs to establish a short cut Icon on the
Desktop.

Any suggestions

How are you trying to do it?
Start>Programs>right-click the one you want to shortcut>Send To>Desktop

Did you try this:

-right click desktop
-View
-check Show Desktop Icons

Yes I did start program and send to desktop, with no results, I'll try
Oscars idea. Right clik desktop,view, show desktop.
