Desktop Icons

I have several Icons on my Desktop (OS Vista Home Prem 32bit) that I created
pointing back at Websites. The Icons display with the "e" symbol. When I go
to Properites..."Change Icon"....I see the Websites Symbol.....but again the
Icon on the Desktop dispalys just the IE "e" Symbol. I tried using Change
Icon.....I see the Change displayed in the Properities Window....but the new
Symbol does not transfer to the Deskyop Icon....it remains displaying the "e".

Why....anyway to get the display to reflect the websites Icon, or, the Icon
I select?

Follow this may help:

1. First you should open the Websites in Internet Explorer(Not Firefox or
others). Without doing this you will only got the "e" Symbol in step 2.

2. Then, right-click your desktop, "New"--->"Shortcut"--> enter the
website's link into the textbox --> "Next" --->"Finish".

3. Return to desktop and check the created Icon.

Tell me if it works.

Did not work. I still got the "e" on the Desktop Icon. When I open
Properites of the Icon the Symbol is the Websites symbol.....in this case a
Gas Can.....but it is not transferring to the Desktop Icon.

The icon may be at a resolution that can't be displayed on your screen. Try
these 2 things:
1. Right-click on the desktop, then choose View - Classic Icons, and see if
that makes your icon show up (all the icons will probably shrink)
2. Click on the desktop, then hold down Ctrl and scroll your mouse wheel to
make the icons change size. Shrinking them may make the blue e turn into the
icon you had in mind.
3. (I know...I said 2) Search Desktop Icons in this discussion group for
more stuff on this subject.

Both your reponse and the one fron brink.....advised to right click the
Desktop Icon and select View..... I am wondering if we are talking about
the same version of Vista 9I am using Home prem 32bit). When I right click
on a desktop icon I don't have VIEW in the menu that opens.

The real strange part about this, the Desktop Icons that are showing up on
my Desktop with the "E" symbol...I created all of them by Right Clicking on
an open Webpage\Create Shortcut...the Icons origiannly appeared with the
Websites Symbol....but now they have changed to the 'e" symbol. Its like the
Desktop has locked out allowing the right symbol to display on its Desktop
shortcut; again, the Icons shortcut does show the right Symbol. I can not
even use the Change Icon feature to change it. The new symbol I select will
appear in Properites but not transfer to the Desktop Icon.

Don't click on the icon....right-click on the Desktop. (Re-read my original
message)

There is good news and Bad news......

When I changed to Classic Icons.....the Icons that I created that were
showing the "e" Symbol....all changed to the correct Website Symbol....
However, and as you wrote, all the desktop Icons got smaller. When I used
the Ctrl\Scroll ....I could get the Icons bigger....but....when I tried to
enlarge the Icons the symbols on the ones I created reverted back to the "e"
Symbol. When I went smaller...the correct symbols remained. I tried
changing the size of the Icons using the Personalizing Feature......'Windows
Color and appearance".......changing the size of the desktop Icons....but
that had no effect.

So now I have the right symbols....good news....bad news...the Icons are
small.....

Any further suggestions as to maintaining Desktop website Symbols on Shortcut
Icons I created...but making the icons larger? Your advice to change to
Classic Icons fixed the symbol problem, but made the Icons larger. Using
ctrl\Scroll....as soon as you enlarge...symbols go to "e". Brinks suggestion
(he provided a Link) appears to deal with Vista 64 (I am running 32)......

Let's see if I understand How to get my Created Website Icons to display the
Websites Symbol (and not the "e") and, also get the Icons larger. Reviewing
your link, after I download the .reg file to my
Desktop....Merge\Run....Refesh or F5....will the Icons that now show up as
"e" change to the Websites Symbol? I don't have to use the CLASSIC View?...
I can use Medium or Larger Icons and the Desktop Icons will maintain the
Websites Symbols? Right now I have the correct Symbols displayed....I had to
use CLASSIC...as soon as I try to use ctrl\Scroll and increase the desktop
Icon size the symbols (only on the Website shortcut Icons I created) the
icons go back to "e"
