Desktop Icons

I had posted this in the management_custom, but only received one
response that did not help. Maybe someone here can help me.

I know when I right click on the desktop, I should have the ability to
either show or no show the desktop top icons. Instead, when I do the
right click, I get a grayed out line that says "Show in groups" and
not the choice of show or no show the icons.
If anyone can help I would be greatly appreciated.
