How can I hide my default desktop icons, like My Computer,
My Network Places, and Recycle Bin?
 
You can delete them except for the recycle bin but I'm
don't think you want to do that . You might need to go
into the registry ...

Get a copy of the free Activicons utility, go to its "Interface"
screen and mark the "Hide all desktop icons" option -
