Desktop Icons no Logo

Although I can see all the Icons on my desktop (XP Home) the logo associated
with each icon is gone in all of them, leaving a generic Icon instead . This
happened not only on the shortcuts I created but also on icons like My
documents, Recycle bin ... all of them!

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

I ran this utility, as advised, and it did not fix the problem. My icons are
only partially problematic. All desktop links (shortcuts) revert to generic
logos, even tho initially they show the true logo, then they change after a
refresh period. My Windows programs, My Documents, etc. icons are fine.
Any other suggestions?

I'd love to, but which file is it? There are many. What is the correct file
name and who is the "creator" ? I appreciate your help, as I cannot navigate
the registry without it. Also, as a sidenote, I am running XP Home ... does
this matter?

I have XP HOME and these instructions are obviously not going to work using
instructions for XP PRO. I was able to get into regedit, but the XP HOME
icon cache files are NOT located in the same place as it would be in XP PRO.
I get as far as "...Explorer/Advanced" and then there is not an "IconCache"
file. I have looked everywhere. Resetting the screen colors does not work
either. Is there anyone else who can help me who knows more about XP HOME
issues? Your help so far is been greatly appreciated. Regards, PJ

The edit applies to all versions of XP. If the key is unavailable, you need
to create it.
