Desktop Icons keep moveing

I reformated twice and my desktop icons will not stay where I place them.
I've tried turning off Auto arrange and Align to Grid. Only one account on
computer. Running XP Pro. Help. Thanks.

Go to http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Search for the text "Add Save & Restore Desktop Layout to Menu" without the
quotes.

click on the link and download the file. It includes a DLL and Visual Basic
Script file. The DLL should be placed in C:\Windows\System32.
Run the script file. This will add "Save Desktop Icon Layout" and "Restore
Desktop Icon Layout" to the context menu.

Once you've loaded the files and run the script, set your icon layout the
way you like it, then right click on the desktop, move the pointer to "Save
Desktop Icon Layout" and click once. Any time the layout becomes disturbed
right click and select Restore Desktop Icon Layout and you icons are
magically back the way you like them.

While your at Kelly's Korner Site, take a good look around, there's lots of
good stuff there.

I'm using WindowsXP Pro with SP2, and I've had this tweak installed for a
couple of months with no noted issues.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Wes but that didn't work for me. I think I've tried every combo of
checks under the Arrange Icons By group. I'm going to try Robert's suggestion
of Kellys korner. I was hopeing to avoid using a third party software to do
something Windows should do natively. Unless someone has a regestry tweek to
try.
Thanks for the replys.

Wes,
Thanks for the info. Unfortunately that did not work. I first tried the
automated edit and then when that didn't work I tried to edit the registry.
That didn't work because it already was edited from the automated edit. I'm
really stumped on this one. I have 3 computers and have installed Windows
numerous times. This is a first. It seems every time I install a new program
or I reboot the icons move. However when I reboot I see the icons in there
right place and then they move when some program loads, maybe the anti virus?
I use Norton.
Thanks,
Michael

Robert,
The DLL works fine. Thanks. Although I was looking for a more permanent
solution, I'll use this. I guess I'll just get use to it. I've had worse
annoyances of Windows!
Thanks,
Michael

Michael,

Glad I was able to help.

Kelly posts a lot of helpful info to the newsgroup, and deserves the credit.

I've removed other links from my site, but there will ALWAYS be one to hers.

Use Selective Startup mode to disable startup programs one at a time and
reboot each time until you find the program that may be causing the problem.

What exactly do you mean? This can be caused by using third party programs
that move the icons over while being used, which is very common. Would need
to know more about what is running via that profile and not the others. A
screen shot would help. Send it to me via private email.
