Desktop Icons Again

With Windows XP-Home the desktop icons leave no trail when dragged-normally
in all other machines I have, the icon moves with the cursor. I am not
talking about Mouse trails- when I click on the icon it just doesn't move-
if I move the mouse and unclick then the icon appears in that position. I
guess I did not make myself clear enough before. TIA

Right click desktop, properties, appearance tab, effects, check the box:
show window contents while dragging.
