Desktop icons & accounts

I've installed several programs over time through one account as
administrator but there are duplicate shortcuts in another. In XP if a
program did this, I could remove them through file manager, how do I
accomplish the same task in Vista? I can see the user accounts and several
common icons in each but not all. XP used to have a common folder in
Documents & Settings, in Vista it states Public Desktop but this does not
show up in the Public folder tree, is it hidden?

Right click on Start button and choose Explore All Users. That will
get you in the zone.

There are folders (possibly hidden, protected) for each user. You will
need to be an Admin to access the other users. Desktop items you want
to share should be in the All Users Desktop. Items you want to make
unique to a user go in that specific user's Desktop.
