Desktop Icon Transparency

I have Windows XP and I wanted to know how to re-store the
desktop icons' transparency.

There is this article from M$

I have tried using both a JPG or a BMP as background. In
both cases, my desktop icons have a box around them of the
colour of the current desktop back-ground.

I am at a loss.... any tips?

Juan,
Right click on My Computer and select properties. Flip to the advanced tab
and click on settings under performance and scroll down the list and put a
check beside "use drop shadows for icon...". OK your way out. Additionally,
you might also want to un-check "Lock web items.." under desktop>right
click>Arrange icons by..
