desktop icon text question

Vic

Somewhere along the line 'tinkering' I lost the 'transparent' desktop icon text (as seen with a fresh install).

Went back to desktop properties and rechecked everything I thought was unchecked but, no joy. Went into TweakUI and rechecked
everything I think was unchecked but, no joy. Went into administrators account and there's the 'bliss' background and transparent
icon text. Hmmm.

Can someone help resolve this issue?

Thanks
Vic

This one is tricky, it took me some time to find it. Right click on my
computer select properties. Choose the advanced tab. Under
performance, choose settings. The option you are looking for should be
in there. check them all and it will work for sure.

Boy you were not kidding. I would have never found it unless it was accidently. For those who would like to know how to restore the
'transparent icon text', follow mik311y's instructions; at the bottom of the various selections (visual settings tab) you'll see
1) Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop
check it .... you'll have 'transparent icon text', but you can go further
2) Use visual styles on windows and buttons
this can be checked to 'enhance' the text by adding a 3D look

Pretty nifty!

Thanks mik311y

Four things are required for transparent icon backgrounds:

1) 'System Properties' -> 'Advanced' tab -> Performance 'Settings' -> 'Visual Effects' tab:
"use drop shadows for icon labels..." must be checked

2) Right-click on Desktop -> 'Arrange Icons by' -> "Lock Web items..." must be CLEARED

3) If you have any web content on your desktop, transparency won't work.

To check for web content: Display Properties > Desktop tab > Customize Desktop button > Web tab >
make sure all checkboxes are clear.

4) Wallpaper must be an image file, not html.

I Just installed Windows XP Pro with SP2
i cannot get the Icon 'TEXT' on my DESKTOP to be transparent

- there is that Colored BOX around the TEXT under the icon..
(the box color can be changed in Display properties i know..)

how to make it so there is NO color around the text...?!
its really bugging me :)

i read some other threads..
i followed these directions: and restarted my pc..
Four things are required for transparent icon backgrounds:

1) System Properties>Advanced>Performance Settings>VisualEffects - check
"use drop shadows for icon labels".

2) Right-click on Desktop ->Arrange Icons by>Lock Web items must be
cleared.

3) If you have any web content on your desktop, transparency won't work.
To check for web content: Display Properties>Desktop>Customize
Desktop>Web - make sure all checkboxes are clear.

4) Wallpaper must be an image file, not html.
