How do I change the grid size in XP so my icons are closer together?

Hi W.,

Right click on the desktop and select properties.
On the Display Properties select the Appearance tab then on the
Advanced.
Under Item pick Icon Spacing (Horizontal and Vertical) and adjust to
your liking.

That doesn't work. I need to adjust the grid size.

Fixed problem. Icon spacing does not happen automatically. You need to
"auot arrange" or unclick and click "align to grid."

Or restart the computer, after which the icons will be in the new
positions.
