Desktop Icon problems

Hi I posted this several minutes ago but it isn't showing up, so I am trying
again.

I was working on a PC yesterday that wasn't connected to a UPS when we lost
power. When we rebooted the computer, the background of the names of the
desktop icons were no longer transparent. I have tried reselecting my
desktop theme and even changing settings, but that hasn't fixed it. How do I
get the icons to look normal again?
Thanks!
Sue

Hello Sue,

Checkpoints to consider:

1) Right click on desktop >> arrange icons by >> uncheck "Lock Web items on
desktop"

2) Right click on My Computer >> Properties >> Advanced tab >> Settings
under 'Performance' >> check "Use drop shadows for icon labels on desktop".

Right click Desktop > Properties > Desktop tab > Customize Desktop button > Web tab >

Start > Run > Type "sysdm.cpl ,3" without quotes > Click Settings > Scroll down and

There are four settings that can affect the display for the transparent icon background.

1. Go to Control Panel / System / Advanced Tab / Performance Section / Settings Button / Visual Effects Tab. Make sure that "use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop" is checked.

2. Right click the Desktop and select Arrange Icons by and make sure that "Lock Web items on desktop" is NOT checked.

3. Make sure that there is no live web content on the desktop. Right click the desktop and select Properties / Desktop Tab / Customize Desktop Button / Web Tab. Make sure that all checkboxes are cleared.

4. If you are using a desktop wallpaper, make sure that it is an image file (.jpg, .bmp, etc) and not an HTML (.htm) file.
