Desktop Icon Name Background

The names of my various desktop icons kinda get lost in my (overly)
complicated desktop photo. Is there some way to have the letters/font
appear with a colored/solid background? I checked with the usual sources
(Help, MS KB, etc) but I don't see this exact point covered anywhere.

Would appreciate any suggestions.

Well - most people actually request the opposite thing (to make the
lettering background invisible - showing their desktop background visible
through it) - so this is kinda refreshing in a way. hah

Control Panel --> System (or right-click on "My Computer" and choose
"Manage"...)
Advanced tab...
Performance section...
Settings button...
Visual Effects tab...
In the list of settings in the scrolling box - find (near the bottom of the
list) "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop" and UNCHECK it...
Apply...
OK...
OK...

That work for you?

Very close, but you would choose "Properties"... instead of "Manage"...
under "My Computer" (Control Panel --> System also works).

Me, I removed my Desktop icon and put them on a hidden toolbar on the
Taskbar. To do this: Rightclick on an empty space on your Taskbar > Click
Toolbars > Desktop. You have now a toolbar left of your Notification area
containing your desktop icons, click the >> button. Its like your Start
button if you have folders on yours desktop the files will show and opens on
a single click. Now go to your desktop, rightclick > Arrange Icons By > Show
Desktop Icons to hide your Desktop Icons. Now you have an empty desktop,
enjoy your destop photo.

Wow- all good solutions - Love the taskbar trick - that's a new one on me.
I'm going to try several variations on the color thing, too.

Thanks everybody - very much appreciate the help
