Desktop icon lost its colour

Hello,
I have a problem with desktop icons, which are loosing their bright colours
and sharp shapes. They seems to like behind "courtain".
I experienced this status when Windows wanted me to instal some updates.
Now, no alert asking me to update appears on the screen and my icons still
look ugly.
Display's driver and adapter's driver has been updated, but it did not help.

Does anybody know what needs to be fixed?
Thanks a lot.

Control Panel|Display|Appearance|Advanced and try changing the icon size by
one, apply changes, then go back in and change the size back. This should
cause the operating system to rebuild the shelliconcache file which may be
in a corrupted state.

Hello, I probably was not clear.
The problem does not affect all regular desktop items. It affects icons in
Qucik launch bar, system tray and some of the icons on desktop - e.g. html
files, which are associated with Mozilla Firefox.
Windows bar (bar where programs are to be minimalized) does not display
color properly for MS Excel - it is supposed to be "green X" but it is now
dipsalyed as something between grey and yellow color.

The process described below from Dave Patrick did not solved this issue.

Thanks again,
Zdenal
