Desktop Icon Arrows (XP)

It sounds like you want to remove the arrow from all shortcuts. You can do
this by installing the WindowsXP TweakUI powertoy from
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

1. Click on the TweakUI.exe link in the Download section
2. Download and install TweakUI
3. Run TweakUI
4. Expand the "Explorer" node in the TweakUI tree view
5. Select "Shortcut"
6. Select "None" in the "Shortcut Overlay" section and hit Apply

or you can try this, which I have not tried

Jared,
I have seen some cases where removing those little arrows
created havoc for some operators in that you can't tell the
difference of whether it is in fact a shortcut or and ACTUAL
program that is sitting there.. Be careful. People have deleted
entire programs and had to reload them just because they didn't
like the little arrows.
My two cents worth,

This question comes up a lot. I generally don't answer because I think
this is a LOUSY idea. The arrow tells you that this is a shortcut, not
the actual program executable. You can copy, move, or delete shortcuts
without doing damage to the program. If you do that to the executable,
you will cause yourself grief.

It's important to know what the icon symbolizes, so don't get rid of
the thing that tells you what's what!

Use TweakUI - one of the XP Powertoys from (if you have installed XP
SP1)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

If you have not installed SP1, the earlier version can be found at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Once installed you will find it in Start - All Programs - Powertoys for
Windows XP

Its Explorer - Shortcut page. I suggest trying 'Light arrow' which is
very unobtrusive, but allows you to check easily whether something is
just a shortcut
