Does anyone know how to get rid of that annoying drop down menu on the
desktop? I've searched the whole control panel and can't find any information
on it. I've also looked throught this site and can't find anything about it.
The menu is irritating and useless. Help!

I'm not sure what you're talking about. Where is it? At the top of your
screen? What are some of the items in the menu?

Is this a laptop? Is it possible you're referring to some proprietary
program that your computer maker put on there?
I know some laptops come with things like that. Supposed to be "helpful."

I suppose it's posible that it's a feature that came with my laptop but I'm
not sure. I just assumed that it was a feature that came with Vista. It's at
the top of the desktop. You just hold your mouse and it drops down and gives
you options like locking and muting and stuff. So you must be right and it's
not part of Vista. Thanks! I'm sure I would have come to that conclusion on
my own but in a way more frustrating and time-consuming way. I was getting so
frustrated that I didn't stop to think it out. Again, thanks!

You wouldn't happen to know how to get rid of it would you? ;)

If you >Right click on it does a dialogue box appears with options.
If an option is 'Exit" / Disable/" select.
If you can work out what is actually is you can disable it from your start
up menu.
What is the make, model of PC?--

Nothing happens when I right click and to be honest I'm not sure how to go
about figuring out what it is. I have a Toshiba Satellite A200 and I haven't
been able to find anything in my user manual or information guide or
anything. I've searched my control panel and came up with nothing. I'm at a
loss.

Open . >Windows Defender > select > 'Tools" . select > Software Explorer > in
the Category box . select > 'Start Up Programs > select (down the bottom)
'Show for all users' . scroll down the left hand col. and see if you can
identify what the item maybe, if you can identify, you can disable it by
highlighting it and selecting disable (don't remove at this stage, it maybe
the wrong one) this action can be reversed by selecting "Enable"
You can do this for any thing in the Start Up, which you wish to
disable/remove (be careful about 'removing'
If you are not sure what to remove, list details of you start up items.
There is no 'easy way' to disable/remove.

I read thru your previous post and from your description it is one of the
modules that Toshiba have installed into the PC, what are some of the
enhancements that Toshiba say that they have added to the PC?

Well, what I have been able to figure out is that the drop down menu
corresponds with the sceond functions on my F1-F12 keys. I n my user guide it
called the keys on my keyboard "hotkeys". With them you can press Fn+F1 and
lock it or Fn+F3 and make it sleep, etc. What this menu does is it drops down
and has the same options. It doesn't ever mention what the drop down menu is
called or that it even exists. I haven't tried your previous suggestion
though, so I'll get back to you.

Alright, so I tried your suggestion Bob and it worked! I had to disable
random stuff before I finally found the right one. The menu is called
flashcards and at first when I disabled it, it wouldn't go away so I
restarted my laptop and seems to be gone for good now. Thanks a lot!!
