I'm not sure of the proper terminology but, for the area
of the taskbar where the time is shown, how do I adjust
properties of the "programs" and notifications that are
shown there. Items show up that I'd rather not see.

I'm not sure if this is the right "group" to email but,
hopefully someone knows.

When you install an app there may be an option for 'startup' or similar.
Some apps have an option to disable auto start, others dont.
You can delve in the registry or install msconfig, by copying from a
winxpsys or downloading

These are apps that load at startup or remain after a program is launched
and continue ro run in the background after they're closed. You can
completely get rid of them or disable them with a program called Starter. Go
to http://codestuff.netfirms.com/download.shtml. You can get lget rid of all
of them and it won't affect a thing.
