Desktop display has shrunk

I have a laptop running windows xp along with the service pack 2 upgrade. My
desktop display has shrunk to the middle of the screen with black surrounding
the entire outer portion of the screen. If I try to change the screen
resolution, the size of the desktop changes, but the fonts and icon sizes
never change, making it very hard to read anything when the desktop is full
screen. I did not change anything before this happened and am clueless as to
what to do. Please help! Remember, it's a laptop and not a portable monitor.
What should I do to fix the problem?

Hello Jordan,

Check your OEM's web site for the latest drivers. Normally if you had an
external monitor you would have a series of switched and knobs that would
fix it.
