desktop color became white instead of blue

I have WinXP Prof. Desktop background color became white instead of normal
blue color, though the desktop icons were visible and of normal color, after
I used SuperAntiSpyware to remove some spywares. Is it possible to bring
back the color without reinstall the OS? Thank you.

Hello Peter,
try to right click-properties-theme and desktop, there you can find windows
default blue color.

As suggestted by "Radenko Zec", you can change the default Desktop Color by
Right-Clicking on Desktop and Choose Properties - click Apperance tab - click
Advanced - in the Item drop down list choose Desktop - and give a color.

But unfortunately, you will never find the Default Desktop color here. The
Blue color you will choose here, will not match with Default Window's Blue
color. I suggest you to change the theme to Windows XP and then set the
Wallpaper to None. This will be the best and quickest way to change the
desktop color.

Hope this information helps you. Let us know!

I'm not familiar with SuperAntiSpyware but it sounds suspiciously like a
rogue antispyware program. See MVP Eric Howes' site for an explanation
and list:
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

It sounds as though you had a variant of the Smitfraud trojan. If you
are really sure your computer is clean, do this:

Go to the Display applet in Control Panel and look on the Desktop tab.
Click on Customize Desktop, and then click on the Web tab. You will see
that there are checkmarks next to "My Current Home Page" and probably
"Lock Desktop Items". Uncheck these. Apply and OK.

If you can't enable desktop backgrounds after a virus, MVP Kelly Theriot
has a fix. Look under Wallpaper-Desktop-Disable Changing here:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_w.htm

If Display tabs are missing, run Kelly's registry edit on line 285,
right-hand side "Restore all display tabs".

If you aren't sure your computer is really clean, do the preparatory
steps here:
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

Then do the specific steps here:
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Smitfraud_Trojan

It would be wise to go through the rest of the general malware removal
steps from the first link, too.

SUPERAntiSpyware is NOT a "rogue" application. People should do you
research before making statements based upon a name. This is how good
products reputations get ruined. We are NOT LISTED on the rogue list -
users/posters should look at the list before even using the name
"rogue" in association with a product such as SUPERAntiSpyware.

We are in fact listed on SpywareWarriors list of "Comprehenisve Tools"
to combat Spyware/Adware/Malware:
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/uiuc/soft6.htm

If you do a search on Google you will see thousands of references to
the software, find it listed on CNET Download.com, SnapFiles.com and
thousands of other sites, and discussed and recommended in many forums
around the web.

SUPERAntiSpyware has been included in Super Ad Blocker for almost 2
years and is now offered as a stand alone application with a 100% Free
Edition and a Professional version.

Peter,

If you open SUPERAntiSpyware, go to Preferences and select the
"Repairs" tab, we hve several repairs listed to restore Desktop
Policies and Restore Wallpaper. That will remove the "white" background
and you can reset your own wallpaper (if you choose to).

Sorry. I did look at Eric's page and last I looked you were
SuperAdBlocker. Did you change your name? No need to get all hot and
bothered about this. There have been a rash of rogue Super[insert
variation of "spy" here] apps lately. Since I had not heard of this
one, I suggested it might be rogue.

So cool off. I'm sorry that I didn't keep track of your name change.
Perhaps something a little more unique might have been a better choice.

My advice to the OP about handling a Smitfraud variant stands.

Malke,

No offense was intended - I think people need to take a look before
labelling products - because it can really damage good products. I have
3 companies SUPERAdBlocker.com, SUPERAntiSpyware.com and
SUPERFileRecover.com.

Selecting a name that tells what the product does it usually the best
option when it comes to brand recognition and identify of the product.

I am sorry if I came off harsh on you - that was not my intent.
