Hi,

I'm trying to customise my desktop but when i go into desktop, it's not
letting me click "browse"......the button isn't highlighted. I'm trying to
pick a picture from my desktop and use as my background. Any help will be
appreciated. Thanks

In the Desktop properties dialog box, click the Customize Desktop button/Web Tab. Make sure that none of the options there are checked.

If you currently have a desktop wallpaper, make sure that it is an image file (.jpg, .bmp, etc) and not an HTML (.htm) file.

For Windows XP Professional
===================

1. Click Start - Run - type GPEDIT.MSC and press Enter
2. Expand to User Configuration - Administrative Templates - Control Panel -
Display
3. On the right-side pane double-click the entry "Prevent Changing Wallpaper"
4. If the value is set to "Not Configured" or "Enable" then set it to
"Disable"

For both Home & Professional edition
========================

1. Click Start - Run - type REGEDIT and press Enter
2. Expand to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\
Explorer\ActiveDesktop
3. On the right side pane - check if there is an entry
"NoChangingWallpaper". Set its value to 0 by double-clicking or delete the
entry.

Hope this information helps you, let us know!

I tried what RajKohli suggested, but still could not get the "Browse" button
to work. I am trying to get my desktop back to where it was yesterday!
This has only been a problem since I opened my computer this morning. Prior
to this time, I had a customized desktop with a picture from the 'My
Pictures' folder.....now it is just a blue background.

Can anyone help! Thanks.

Help us so we can help you. Tolu and Jaly, you are not providing sufficient
information. Which version of Windows you are using? Have you tried both
Registry Editor and GPEDIT.MSC.

If yes then here is more to go. Read the following article and see if it
helps you:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921049/

If still doesn't solve then:

A key in your registry is probably pointing to a deleted file refered to as
desktop.html

If you go into your regedit and follow this path: HKEY_CURRENT
USER/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/WINDOWS/CURRENTVERSION/POLICIES/SYSTEM

In there you may see a key that points to the C:\Windows\Web\desktop.html

If you see that key DELETE IT. Your virus software probably found this
hijack desktop viruz and deleted the infected file already.

Hope this help, let us know!
