desktop back ground goes black

Since the weekend the desktop background has gone black. If I browse to find
a new background none are previewed. If I switch to the Windows Vista them,
first, then I can change the background. When I shut down and restart, the
background is back to black again and the theme shows as 'Modified theme'.
There were 3 windows updates installed on 27th Nov - KB957321, KB959108 and
KB95913 - perhaps one of these is causing the problem? Would be interesting
to know if any one else is also experiencing this.
I'm using Vista Ultimate x64.
Thanks
Mike

No problems here. You can always go to Programs & Features and uninstall the
updates and then reinstall them one at a time to see if you can reproduce
the issue.

Otherwise, here are a few notes about this sort of problem:

If you can't change Desktop background - Start>Control Panel>Ease of
Access>Ease of Access Center. Under "Make things on the screen easier to
see", deselect the option "Remove background images (where available).
Select "Save".

If that doesn't help, download wallpaper_enable.reg from the following link
- http://www.winhelponline.com/fixes/wallpaper_enable.reg

Save the file to Desktop. Right-click on the file and then choose "Merge"

Thanks Malke. Sorry for the delay. I'm using Windows Mail to view the
newsgroup. It frequently doesn't set replies to messages as being 'watched'
when I've submitted a question, so I miss the responses.
The problem went away all by itself a couple of days later. If it happens
again I will try your suggestions.
Regards
Mike
