desktop and start menu not visible

windows 2000 loads, but after windows log and chime my
screen goes to white and I can't see the desktop. I can
access my programs through task manager only. What did we
do??

Check that explorer.exe is the default shell to start. Look at the Reg_Sz
string value of;
"Shell"="Explorer.exe"
found at
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
