Designing Sites

I want to find out where to start in designing sites. This is something that I have never done before. Where do I start?
 
Do you mean web design? Start by getting some books - there are a lot out
there for beginners, and a lot of software available to do it with....also
note that this is a Microsoft Outlook newsgroup, not relevant to web design.
