design templates and slide layout don't appear

I have newly installed Powerpoint from my Office Pro 2003 CD twice now, but
the individual slide layouts and design templates don't appear in the side
bar. I can click in the empty space in the slide layout or deseign template
side bars and the layouts and templates will be applied to the slide, but I
can't see the choices in the sidebar. Any ideas?

This sounds like a display problem. The first thing I would do is look for an
update for my video card driver. If that doesn't help I would try lowering or
turning off the graphics hardware acceleration.

.... what Sonia said, and: Did you install Service Pack 1 for Office 2003,
too? It is not sufficient to install the CD content, as Office 2003 had some
problems in the beginning, but installing all updates solves them. Use
Help - Check for Updates (note, that you have to be connected to the
internet for this).
