Demotion of a DC

Our company had taken a DC offline in a regional site. It
was just shipped back and we were going to bring it
online, demote it and recommision it for a new purpose.
Simple enough and been done a thousand times right,
wrong. We had to change IP addresses to bring it up on
our corporate network which we did. Following this we
cleaned up DNS. I ran DCPromo and began demotion through
the wizard and received "Logon Failure: The target
account name is incorrect". Has anyone seen this? we
have changed the Domain administrators password since
this was decommisioned.
Thanks.

Probably a DNS issue - you can fix the DNS first or you
can use the DCPromo /forceremoval option AND do an
NTDSUtil "metadata cleanup".
