I aquired a Dell Notebook that was loaded with Win XP.
How can I remove Win XP and FORMAT my HD without reinstalling Win XP?

The basic tasks of an operating system is to provide a file system and an
environment that allows you to interact with your files, hardware and
installed programs. What do you plan on doing after you remove the
operating system?
If you are planning on installing a different operating system and need to
ask how to prepare the drive for that step, you have a lot of homework to
do first. In general - the setup routine for the new operating system
should include tools to do disk prep prior to its installation. If it does
not, you'll need to find suitable alternatives.
