Hi, i have a Dell inspiron 1300, have done for about 3 months, recently my DVD rewriter started going extremely slow, taking over 5 hours to copy a DVD instead of 20 mins. it is also really slow when doing cd's. i formatted the laptop, and it was ok for a while, now it is going really slow again, i don't want to keep having to format it, don't think its worth getting repaired if it could be easily sorted. it isn't the software as i've tried different programs, same outcome, any replies are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

How old is it?

Is the Laptop under warranty still?

If so let them deal with it. It sounds like the drive maybe on its way out due to power failure. Maybe the Laser Diode is going i'm not sure. Its worth enquiring from whoever or whereever you purchased it from?

Your only other alternative is to buy a new drive, but for a Dell it will be quite a hefty price tag (close to £100 or more) I would think.

i have had the laptop for 3 months, it is still under warranty, i just thought there might be an easier way of sorting it out rather than sending it back, i haven't had it for long, thanks.
