I noticed that frequently after downloading a program through Firefox
and running the *.exe through Firefox download manager that I get an
error message that the program is not compatible with NT4. I didn't
think I had NT4! So checked it out and sure enough it running along
side of XP. The *.exe program installs fine from the icon on my
desktop. Can I safely remove NT4 and if so how?
thanks! Beth in NC

It is not possible to be running two operating systems at the same time
other then one being in a virtual mode which would require special software.
I believe you are getting a generic error message when it says not
compatible with NT4. XP is referred to as a version of NT - I think NT5.1 .
Running the set command in XP will show the OS as NT.

Thanks for your response, Steve. Here's what happened yesterday when
downloading an *.exe file through mozilla firefox. Download was saved
successfully to my download folder in firefox tools and to my desktop.
When I clicked to open from the download folder, an error message said
something to the effect that this program is not compatible with
Win98, NT4, etc. and would not launch. The program launched
successfully from my desktop. this happens repeatedly, It appears as
if firefox 'sees' my computer is running something different than XP.
Could other OS be on my computer, although not running, but confusing
the download launch? Any ideas? Thanks again!

I am not sure what is going on but if the program launches from your desktop
and works the way you want I would not worry too much about it unless major
applications can not be installed on your computer. Your computer can only
be running one operating system at a time. If you go to Control Panel/system
properties - general it will show you which operating system you are
running. Of course operating system corruption or malware can cause
unpredictable results.
