Dell Inspiron fails to boot after XP SP2 but boots on docking station

Folks, help reqd.

Dell Inspiron 8200 fails to boot standalone after XP SP2 applied.

The weirdness is that I CAN get it to boot on a docking station.

Once the PC boots on the docking station I can use it standalone.

If I use the 'un-dock' command in XP, I get a BSOD, but I can then boot the
machine standalone.

Any/all pointers appreciated.

Hi David,

The BSOD should have an error message pointing to the name of faulty driver
file or module. This is where you want to start. If a dump file is created,
it too can be analyzed for pointers.

Many Dell laptops have a problem with corrupting docked hardware profiles.

Boot the machine out of the docking station, right click My Computer,
Properties, Hardware tab, Hardware profiles, select and delete the
docked profile. Shut down, put into docking station and boot up. It will
rebuild the docked hardware profile.
