Dell Insp Win XP Pro + SP1 --> now no USB

I have a Insp. 1100. I just downloaded SP1. None of my USB
devices work now, including a standard Logitech 2 button
wheel mouse and the external 3.5" disk drive I baught with
the laptop.

I tried both devices on my standard desktop and they work
fine. After downloading SP1 I also installed the
recommended update to fix a USB problem Micrsoft had, and
it still did not work. I am up to date on all critical
updates and recommeneded updates relating to SP1.
