Dell Dimesnion 3000 no ethernet connection

Can anyone help me.....

basically, I did a re-format of my pc and reinstalled xp...... but since
then I havent been able to get my modem up and running as it was
before......

now I have to use it via a USB cable.............. before, the ethernet
cable was working fine.......

the trouble is..... I now have a laptop that I want to use Wireless.......
and todo this the router that I have (Cable & Wireless) requires the
ethernet to be on.......and I cant for the life of me suss out how to do
this.......

It was there before the install......... and its gone now....... could it be
something that has been installed wrongly.... would a fresh re-install put
it right.....

Have you got any clues.... as its doing my head in......

After you reinstalled XP, did you reinstall the drivers for your network
adapter? Check Device Manager (Start -> Run -> devmgmt.msc) and see if
there's a yellow exclamation point next to any entries. This would indicate
you need to install drivers available from Dell to make these hardware items
work correctly.

If you received a Resources CD with your Dell, you should find the basic
driver for your network adapter there. If not, go to Dell's web site and
download them.

Click on Drivers and Downloads on the Dell site. Select Dimension 3000 under
the Select Model button or enter the information from the Service Tag on the
back of your computer. You should find the correct drive listed under
Network -> Intel Pro 100 Network Connection.

After you install the drivers for your network adapter, you might want to go
back to the Dell site and download the drivers for your chipset as well as
any that are listed as Recommended.

Got it sorted.......... dodgy bl**dy ethernet
cable................AAARRRGGGHHHHHH!!!
