Deletion of Update Backups??

Sam

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 computer with windows XP Pro (SP2) with all
current applicable updates. I have removed most of the backups for the
recent MS Security updates with Doug Knox's program "Remove Hotfix Backups
(thanks Doug!!). However, there are still two backups that I would like to
remove and they are:
C:\Windows\$MSI31Uninstall_KB893803v2$ (I believe it is for the windows
Installer 3.1 program)

C:\Windows|$NtUninstallB917734_WMP9$ (I believe it is for the security
update for windows media player 9

Can I remove these backups and if so, what are the procedures for doing
this. Thanks much for any help, Sam.

DO NOT delete the folder \$hf_mig$

The others; \$NTUninstall********, can all be deleted if you are sure you
are never going to uninstall that particular update and it is working as
it's supposed to.

In the \windows folder there are also *.log files corresponding to the above
folders that can also be deleted.

Then you go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and highlight the
Hotfixes/Security updates, etc that correspond to the folders you deleted
and select Remove. Because you had previously removed the folder in Explorer
Add or Remove no-longer 'sees' the uninstall option and will now ask if you
want to delete the listing for that item. Answer Yes.
