Some time ago the issue of deleting Windows $update files was discussed. I
can't remember if I ever saw the outcome. Someone in this NG said there was
one in particular one shouldn't delete. I don't remember which it was. I'd
like to get rid of mine. I recently had a crash and had to reformat. Now I
have 74 of these files on disc, taking about almost 2 GIGS! Which one
shouldn't I delete? Why? And is there any handy software out there that'll
do it all, rather than having to go through all 74 of them one at a time?

Generally, the file "$hf_mig$" should remain, but all the
"$NtUninstall....." files *COULD* be deleted if you want. They do so
little harm on your system, and they will get compressed as time goes
by, so just leaving them there does no harm. You could also transfer
them to a CD and then delete the files. If you don't need the disk
space, just leave them be.

As for a mass delete - just select the top one, hold down the SHIFT key
and select the bottom one. When they are all highlighted, press the
Delete key and they will be gone.

You're welcome. I try to post the same way the last poster did -
sometimes I get flamed and sometimes not <g>.

I always thought top posting made sense. I mean you can read the thread from
the oldest to the newest if you want. You get the answer first. You just
have to scoot to the bottom to find out what the question was.... <grin>
