deleting very large files

I have Windows XP Professional on my 120 GB hard drive. I attempted to
deleted a 25GB file. When I got a message that the file was to large to
place in the recycle bin, I selected to have it permanently deleted.

However, are the delete supposedly took place, I saw that my free space had
not changed. In addition, I did not see the file I deleted.

I recovered that file with Norton's UNERASE utilility. Afterwards, I did a
WIPEINFO on the 25GB file. The file was definitely not there anymore and I
obtained more free space.

I should have to WIPE my large files to erase them. Has anyone else ran
into this problem? If so, do you know of a fix?

Thanks,
Mobius

Choosing to delete the file permanently, bypassing the Recycle Bin, should
be all that is needed to delete your file. Did you close Windows Explorer
and then open it again, allowing it to refresh?

After I saw the problem with the delete, I rebooted my system hoping this
would clear up the problem. The problem persisted. I also noticed that I
had the same problem with a 20 GB file.
