Deleting the unused and or program icons in the taskbar customize

Does anyone know how to get rid of the program icons in the taskbar menu
that you no longer have? For instance if you once downloaded say Spybot
but no longer use it, that program still remains. I know that you can hide
the icons, but is there a way of deleting them?

get the Taskbar repair kit, which includes a deletion of all such items
to start over (there is no way to delete individually)
