Deleting Temp files

There are currently 5 gigs of files under my C:\Documents
and Settings\default\Local Settings\Temp and I was
wondering what all these are, and if I can delete them
all without causing some catastrophic failure. The files
I *do* recognize in this folder are completely useless.
Some of them are from years ago.

I would think that a Temp directory was just that...a
place for storing temporary files...but I wanted to make
sure before I go on a mad deleting spree. 5 gigs is a lot.

I think maybe was the applications that created these temp files forgot to
delete theme when they exit , maybe because they exited unexpectedly or they
were bad designed

you could delete them directly
