Deleting Section picks up wrong formatting

Section 1 has header and 1.5" margin and is 6 pages, Section 2 has different
header and 3.5" margin and is one page - the last one. When I delete the
section break, the document picks up the Section 2 formatting. I need to keep
section 1 formatting. Word 2003, Windows XP
