deleting names for desktop icons

Is there a way to delete the names of desktop icons? I do
not want to rename them something else, just let the icon
stand alone.

Hi Tom,

Right click the icon and click on rename. Now hold down the ALT key and from
the numeric keypad, type 0160. Now let go of the ALT key and press enter.
The icon will not have a name. For the second icon, while holding down ALT,
type 0160 twice and so on and so forth.
