Deleting link list in "FILE">OPEN

How do I delete the contents of the dropdown menue in
the "File">"OPEN" menue. Apparently many of the web
sites that I have visited in the past are kept somewhere,
and when the first letter is typed in OPEN a list of web
links are listed for selection. I would like to be able
to eliminate or delete this list at my choice. Clearing
History does not have any effect.

Clearing History does not have any effect.

None? Or you mean that some are left?

There can always be some left so if you don't want any turn off
AutoComplete for Web Addresses and you won't see any.

If Clearing History is having literally no effect then it is probably
being interfered with by another program. Therefore close all
programs, including a certain anti-virus scanner and use the
Control Panel's Internet Options applet to Clear History.
In any case I don't think you should be surprised to see limited
effect after using IE's Tools menu unless you restart the browser
(e.g. make sure that iexplore.exe is not in Task Manager's Processes
tab before restarting it.)

BTW you haven't disclosed your OS but clearing History in XP
while iexplore.exe is not active also clears the TypedURLs list
(the list you see when you press F4). Some say for other OS you may
get the same effect by temporarily turning off AutoComplete for Web
Addresses and Use Inline AutoComplete before clearing History.
