How can I get rid of directory too. Unchecking the box in
windows setup only removs the files. The system states that
the files are in sue and that i do not have permission. I
am the adminstrator of the machine.

Hi JMC422003,

Windows System File Protection guards the folder even
though that folder and it's parent are 0 kb in size. It will
guard it since it is used to contain the games which are
Windows components. Not even delleter removed it. :)

DelLater is an excellent program.

But I should be able to remove "msn gaming zone" and
"Outlook Express" directories.
I attempted to rename the directories and then reboot and
delete them.

Somehow this should be done. Some application is
referencing them.
Where in the registry, which dll, what ini file ... ???

Why microsoft is securing these directories, I would like
to know ... ????

My guess would be so that the folder exists if Windows has to install
the games again by extracting them to that directory. If the directory
doesn't exist, the installation would most likely fail. That's my guess. :)

So the install can create them like every other installer in the world. I
never have understood why MS insists on these empty folders staying there.
Why must Tour.exe stay on your drive for example?

Hi RM,

It's a good question, off topic perhaps, but I'll give it a shot.

My guess would be that it remains available for the next new
user who is added to that system, or for an existing user who
wants to look through it again or perhaps for the first time. :)

Remember, that's just my opinion. I don't speak for the folks
at Microsoft anymore than you do. It's been fun RM, thanks.
