I am in the process of transfering my pictures and documents to a external
HD. How can I delete these files from my main HD without having to delete
each file individually?

Several ways - delete the folders in which the files reside, or select all
the files, Right-click, hold down and drag to the new location where you
will get a context menu to Copy, Move or cancel. if you choose Move, then
the files will be moved, not copied. Just two - I'm sure there are others...

The files are in My Document and My Pictures- The XP operating system will not removal of the program files as a group. Just individually.

I don't understand that - can you not select more than one file at a time to
either move, copy or delete? (Hold down Control while you select a number of
files....)

You're post is unclear. What do you mean by program files? I thought these
were data or image files? While in that folder do a search for the file
extensions, then select all and delete.

I recommend not using the move function. I have seen situations where
something happens in the middle of the move, and the source and destination
files were lost. I recommend copy then delete.

??? You have program files in My Documents and My Pictures? That would be
very unusual.

I assume that these are documents and picture files, not program files. If
you want to delete all the files in one folder, click any file in that
folder, then hold down the Ctrl key and press the A key ("A" stands for
"all"). That selects them all. Then press the delete key.
