Unwanted file on usb disk

Running XP home--Have a usb external HD used for transfer and backup that I
occasionally wipe clean--Recently I found 2 files--System value
information-& - recycler installed on the hd--both are showed and will not
delete--I have tried to format the hd and these 2 are still on the
disk-annoying because when I try to copy multiple files ( select all and
copy) they will transfer until it reaches one of these and I get a message
file can not be entered and the transfer drops out--Any suggestions other
than to throw the hd away will really be appreciated--would try to fdisk and
set a new partition but seem to be too dumb to know how.
many thanks---Mel

The files you mention are created by default. You can't remove them. I'd
suggest you do not use a "Root Level" for copying. Create a sub-folder
and do your copying from that level where Recycler/SVI won't factor in.

When you say "System Value Information" then you probably mean "System
Volume Information". This is a folder, not a file. It is used by the System
Restore facility. You can prevent it from being created by disabling System
Restore on your external disk. Click Start / Help, then look for help on
System Restore if unsure how to do this. You will see an item "Change System
Restore settings".

"Recycler" is also a folder, not a file. It is used by Windows to store the
files that you delete.

These folders do not normally get into the way of copying folders in bulk
unless you explicitly enabe the Windows Explorer setting "Show hidden
files". I recommend that you turn it off again.
