Deleting files in CSC (Offline Files)

Hi!

One of my customers is having trouble with his offline files - meaning I'm
having trouble with it ;)

The thing is that he's got this enourmous archive of files...aprox. 16GB
placed in his My Documents. I've finally succeeded in disabling the offline
files and his computer is now acting normal again.

Now the problem is that the CSC foler is holding 8GB of data. Even after I
tried the FormatDatabase Value in the registration database and even after
hitting the delete offline files buttion a million times. When I go to the
View Offline Files - it's actually empty :O Well it's en empty 8GB database
then. The only profile on the machine is the user that's having the trouble.

So what I'm thinking of is a way to manually delete the directories in the
CSC folder.......I've read somewhere that that's no good, but I really wanna
free up the 8GB on the laptop.

Anyone got any suggestions/advice for me? It will be much appreciated :D

Tried moving the whole of My Documents elsewhere and then turning back on
Offline Files? Or the below URL as well as this?

How about:
"How to Restart the Offline Files Cache/Database"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;230738

Says it applies to Win2k - for XP YMMV.
Might be worth spending some time searching Microsoft's Knowledge Base for
"CSC", "Offline files" etc. if you haven't already.

Hi johnf!

Sorry if I was beeing unclear in my description. The CSC folder is a hidden
folder located in the Windows directory. It's holding the offline data :)

So that's the one holding 8GB of data I can't delete :(

Hi aD!

Already tried moving My Documents and I've already spend a lot of time on
the MS Knowledgebase.....though maybe not enough time ;)

Thanx for your link, that one I hadn't found, I'll try it as soon as
possible :)

Thanks for that, but sorry, I have no folder - hidden or unhidden - in any
of My Docs folders, so can't help.
But I still get so annoyed when I'm given definitie clues such as that, but
can't assist :) ..... especially when I have so many programs on my OS!!

LOL yeah sometimes thats the way new words appear ;)

Perhaps I should elaborate just a little more. It's NOT inside the My
Documents folder. Say you've installed XP on C:\ and in the Windows
directory, then the CSC folder would be located here "C:\Windows\CSC", and it
will be hidden by the "hide protected operating system files (recomended"
check box in "Folder Options - View". Hope that helps you :)

Best Regards and thanx for your time

OK, found it in Windows.
Mine has 8 empty folders, d1 - d8, plus 2 x 1Kb 'system files', 00000001 &
00000002,
Total CSC folder size a massive :) 8.00 KB / (8,192 bytes)
